It combines the utmost in stagecraft (space, architecture, lights and so on), the science of visual and musical rhythm, a sense of theatre, the whole sheathed by a mind of steel. Conceived as a burst of machine gun fire with the brilliance of each projectile illuminating the night for a split second, Salves is as powerful an experience for the seven dancers as for the spectators. The dancers are called on to move in pitch blackness in flashes snatched from obscurity.
